Now that you know what SEO is, you want to know how to use it for your website so that you can reap its benefits. In this article we are going to cover three very important SEO techniques that you can apply immediately to your site.
Keywords and Key Phrases
The most basic SEO techniques is the use of keywords and key phrases. Keywords are the basic words, a search engine spider (basically a program that scans websites and reports its findings back to the search engine database) are trained to find. If these words are, the site is more likely to catch the attention of the spider and get listed. Key phrases are like keywords, except that they are basically two or more words put together. You must read the concept of keyword relevancy.
Proper Titles Tags
If you look at the top left of your web browser you’ll notice a text, which states what site you are on and some times a brief description of what the website is all about. This text is known as the title of a Web page. Title is one of the first things a search engine spider will notice when you visit a website. It is very important that you make sure your site has a meaningful title. The title should not include large amounts of keywords and what keywords you use should be relevant to the site and do not ever over use the keywords. This can further explained through our article on meta tag optimization.
There is such a thing as over using keywords and it can be worse than using no keywords at all in terms of getting ranked high in the search engine results. The term keyword density may be defined as the number of keywords divided by the number of total words on a page. So if you have 500 total words and 10 keywords, you will have 2 and 7%. Anything more than that is considered keyword stuffing anything less than that is considered too little to make a difference.
